Thanksgiving - A different Perspective

Traditionally Thanksgiving is a time of praise and remembrance for what God has provided us. It is a time in which we observe the pilgrims and their journey to freedom. It is a time in which we celebrate the benevolence of our Creator while sitting around a table filled with an abundant feast. But Thanksgiving is something much more.

Thanksgiving is also a reminder from God that we are blessed and provided divine gifts; gifts that often disrupt our lives and change our course. God’s gifts disclose the harsh reality that what we have come to regard as "normal" is really a deviation from the truth, revealing that we are never satisfied. We are creatures that consume for our own personal gain and benefit. God’s gifts are sometimes painful for us to accept because they are for our own wellbeing. God’s gifts allow us to see the truth in our lives, and reveal our shortcomings. If we accept these divine gifts they soften our hearts, change our way of thinking, and transform our souls. That is something to be sincerely thankful.

Thanksgiving is a transformational experience in which we are given an insight into our personal lives. It is then that we understand that God is not at the center of our lives, rather it is our selfish desires and needs that take precedent. It is a remarkable gift of redemption.
