The Passing of Another Christmas Season

Wrapping paper is stung throughout the house as if a paper bomb exploded in the living room. The cat wildly plays with a bow and ribbon that was once part of a beautifully dressed package. Chairs are stacked with neat little piles of each individuals opened presents. And there stands the Christmas tree, barren of the once plethora of gifts. It somehow doesn’t look the same. The tree looks lonely and abandoned, its lights beaconing for attention. Garland still hangs from the staircase as the poinsettias’ leaves wither and crackle.

Another Christmas has come and gone; another year quietly passes like a deer gliding stealthily through the forest boughs. The New Year rapidly approaches as time gently slips into the infinite.  Another year of life; another year of newly found joys and struggles; another year of opportunities lost and gained.

Where does the time go? Are we happy with life or just existing from day to day in a doldrums stupor? Have we met that point on the scale in which we know we have arrived at something special? Tick tock, time ticks onward, stopping for no one or anything.

The older we become the more we question our accomplishments and ourselves. We reflect on those years in which we were so lost, not knowing one direction form another. We reflect on those numerous crossroads of life in which we stood. Did we make the right decisions? Did we choose the right path? Questions such as these run through our minds as we look back on the years passed. Yet through it all we are here in this world and alive! God has granted us freedom of choice and with that freedom comes the responsibility to make the best decisions we can make in the moment. All we can hope to do is to choose to do the next right thing in life. If we do that then 2014 will be a year of tremendous spiritual growth.

Tick, tock the clock keeps ticking as time subtly passes us by, leaving only memories of yesterday and hope for today, as well as tomorrow. Yes, another Christmas has come and gone like the wind in the night it is there one moment and gone the next. We have the opportunity to fill this New Year with joy, reconciliation, determination and love. Let’s begin 2014 by getting on our knees and turning our lives and wills over to the care of Christ Jesus, asking him to guide, direct and protect us along the way. He is our everlasting beacon through all times and places. He is our way to the infinite.
