Hidden Ministries Amongst Us

The church is a place of public gathering in which people of all walks of life, regardless of their socio-economic status, sexuality, race or gender gather to worship and praise God. So often we become a community of faith that develops tunnel vision in regards to our ministries and outreach, that we become blind to some miraculous things taking place right under our noses.

Here at Our Savior we are thoroughly blessed to have the incredible ministry of Alcoholics Anonymous. This twelve-step program created and inspired by Bill Wilson many years ago has saved countless lives, as well as provided hope for the hopeless. People who appeared to have no chance at life suddenly find themselves as bedrocks of the community. AA is a God centered and spiritual program that has brought many people suffering from the disease of alcoholism back into a right and healthy relationship with God, as well as with one another. This ministry is just further proof that absolutely none of us are beyond the grasp of God’s love and grace.

AA is a program about living life happy, joyous and free. It is a selfless program that genuinely places the needs of others before one’s self. As a church in general there is a great deal we can learn from our brothers and sisters in AA. God works miracles amongst the group each and every day. There is a rich and delightful gratitude that rises up out of the programs membership transcending anything I have ever spiritually witnessed. They practice unconditional love and forgiveness that is truly breathtaking to behold. They live and accept life on life’s terms, constantly turning to God for guidance and direction. It is a program that teaches its members to cope with the difficulties of life, as well as celebrate the joys of life.

We are truly blessed to have AA meeting at Our Savior. There is so much that the church as a whole can learn from this incredible group of people. They are a hidden jewel among us.
